Finca Magdalena has important partnerships with the Bainbridge-Ometepe Sister Islands Association (BOSIA), near Seattle, Washington, USA and the Ometepe Gulf Islands Friendship Association (OGIFA), near Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. These two organizations purchase half of our yearly coffee harvest and use profits to fund projects on the island like clean water systems, education and health care.

We currently have fresh water thanks to Volcán Maderas, BOSIA and OGIFA. A dam built on the mountain provides water to the hostel, the residents of Balgüe and to other communities below. As you hike around please take care not to touch the pipes or concrete water boxes as you will contaminate the town’s water.

Take a look at these photo diaries prepared by members of BOSIA on their visits to the farm.
